The best thing about unforgiving, cold weather is that it allows you to pile on layers without feeling like you have way too many on. And who can forget that strategic layering is the key to hiding extra winter cellulite? For one, an airy dress over a turtleneck knit is the easiest way to rock girly garb in winter, and if you’re like me and prefer to go sans pants but still want to keep warm, then over-the-knee and thigh-high boots are your best options. Throw or wrap a wool scarf over and nail the finished look with a coat in a neutral color (camel tones never let anybody down).

Admittedly I’ve been watching too much Game of Thrones because all I really want to drape over my shoulders are IKEA fur rugs. Of course a real jacket is always the better option, and when you’re headed to see the pines, what better way to be overdressed than with some ra-ra fringed pants inspired by the wildlings slash white walkers?

And if you’re hoping to visit the Wanneroo Pines, simply map out coordinates -31.726428, 115.787026 that should take you on a half hour drive from Perth. Just be careful of falling branches and respect the area! In other news, red hill quarry is now a highly hazardous space so please steer clear.

cosmic lace

Finally back down under and all I can say is that winter is as welcoming as I have always remembered it to be. Sure, it rained upon arrival and for the next couple of days but the skies cleared and we were blessed with a sunny weekend where I could put the straw hat to good use and take my favourite new For Love & Lemons cosmic tiered lace dress for a spin. We headed down south and of course the trip was a fruitful one (any trip spent with the family is always close to my heart) for we found this orchard that was bare but still beautiful. The place also reminded me a lot of Christmas and made me feel fuzzy inside.

Truthfully I didn’t realise how much I missed Perth until I was back in my room making snow angels on the fur rugs that sit next to my bed, only to have my brother barge in and raise an eyebrow. I know it is a great privilege to be hopping on and off a plane every now and then, and chasing the sunsets in every country I visit, but there is nothing quite like having your parents kiss you goodnight every evening instead of sending emoji replies to a group chat two thousand miles away.
I will be off again in a few days only to return many months later, so for now I will embrace the present and feel grateful. Oh how nice it is to be back…
